Dentata

There is a powerful myth among some cultures—it is about a woman, or a goddess, who is irresistible to men. But those fortunate enough to win her favor and visit her bed soon discover her terrible secret: her vagina has teeth. Is the pleasure they find in the vagina dentata worth castration and inevitable exsanguination? One can only imagine.

Gauge

Does not need to be precise for this project. If you know you knit tightly, go up a needle size. If you know you knit loosely, go down a needle size.

Design Notes

Adding even more than two googly eyes could be quite fun!

Directions

Knit the Head:

Cast on 36 stitches.

Work in stockinette for 1 inch.

Next knit row: K2, K2tog, knit to last 4 stitches, K2tog, K2. (34 sts)

Purl one row and then knit one row.

Next row: P2, P2tog, purl to last 4 stitches, P2tog, P2. (32 sts)

Knit one row and then purl one row.

Next row: K2, K2tog, knit to last 4 stitches, K2tog, K2. (30 sts)

Purl one row and then knit one row.

Next row: P2, P2tog, purl to last 4 stitches, P2tog, P2. (28 sts)

Knit one row and then purl one row.

Next row:
K2, K2tog, knit to last 4 stitches, K2tog, K2. (26 sts)

Purl one row and then knit one row.

Next row:
P2, P2tog, purl to last 4 stitches, P2tog, P2. (24 sts)

Bind off; weave in ends.

Using scissors, trim excess fur from knit side, being careful not to clip any stitches. This will reduce the bulk and make sewing easier.

Create Mouth/Backing:

Lay your merkin on the felt and trace its outline with the marker, continuing the outline below the bottom edge of the knitted piece to form a triangle. Cut out the triangle inside the lines by 1/2 to 1/3 of an inch, making sure the knitted piece fits the top of the triangle. You'll attach this after adding teeth.

Add Teeth and Mouth/Backing:

Cut a strip of beaded ribbon trim about two inches longer than the bottom edge of your knitted piece, and sew it into place on the wrong (trimmed/knit) side. Cut the trim to fit.

Sew the knitted piece to the felt triangle, and fluff up any fur that was trapped by your sewing.

Add Eyes:

Position googly eyes as desired on the front of your merkin. Using scissors, carefully trim the excess fur beneath. Attach googly eyes with craft glue. Allow to dry.

Wearing:

Affix to bare skin with spirit gum, or add small loops to the top corners and wear on a chain or belt.
